Second Breakthrough

In addition to Grayson sleeping so well last night, he had another first after Daddy got home. We have been working diligently on tummy time for a) the betterment of his neck muscles, b) to appease the Doctor at the next visit (because I am sure he will inquire, and I am a horrible liar), and c) so mommy gets some time without baby in tow, which gives her arms a rest, though not her ears (that is….until yesterday).

For the past couple of days I have been really working on how to make tummy time enjoyable because lately it is as though he knows, when we get about an inch from the floor, what’s a commin’ and starts to wail. So the only thing that I have found to remotely keep him distracted for 10 seconds is to place him on the quilt about 2 feet from the mobile and then turn it on. It kind of encourages him to look up (more on that in a second) and he seems to like the music too. So anyway, instead of him laying there with his head on the floor, crying, and not even trying to lift his ginormous noggin into the air, last night he finally looked up, all silent-like. And for the FIRST time, he had his arms under his chest and his head held high. (Usually, he lays with his head turned 90 degrees, straight in line with his left shoulder (always his left shoulder) and if he tries to lift up, he keeps the side of his face parrallel to the floor…every time- and because of this, as you can see in the picture, I had to place the quilt so that his body/ right side of his head will be perpendicular to the mobile in hopes that he will turn his head that way).

So Dave quickly got down on the floor saying words of encouragement while I snapped a couple of pictures, then went to clean up the dinner dishes. GO GRAYSON! I hope that today is just as successful.
